landscape tells a story. CENN x Artarea gallery, curated by: Khatuna kabuliani, 2024
Breaking Line is tied to the history of Chiatura, a city that has been a hub of manganese mining since the nineteenth century. The installation addresses the environmental challenges of heavy industrial processes, particularly the significant waste generation they produce. The work is based on studying the footprints left by anthropogenic intervention and exploring how these negative outcomes might be reduced if extraction methods were reimagined.
One focus is Shukruti village. Due to ongoing technogenic impact, natural landscapes here are being disrupted, creating new, artificial depressions and holes. Alongside this ecological degradation, the village is experiencing depopulation, leading to the disappearance of centuries-old history. The prints incorporated into the installation are authentic, adding a tangible, physical dimension to this narrative.
